Shishkin wins at Newbury under Nico de Boinville

Adrian Wall looks ahead to this Friday’s action packed day of ITV Racing which will be hosted by Newbury Racecourse. The feature race of the day is the Long Distance Hurdle where Paisley Park will be looking to get back on track. Adrian has picked out one tip at 22-1 who should outrun his large odds. 3.35 Newbury

Colin Tizzard was extremely quiet this time last year but the yard has been firing on all cylinders since the end of October and are worth following at present. Tizzard is operating at 15 per cent this season which is far better than the eight per cent he operated at last term.

It was great to see the stable get Lostintranslation back to near his very best last weekend and I am hopeful that they can work the same wonders with Slate House. He might be a better chaser these days but running off 137 on hurdling bow, he has to be of significant interest at the prices if he’s anywhere close to his best.

Slate House was a novice hurdle winner at Cheltenham on debut before going on to beat Summerville Boy in a Grade 2 at that track soon after. He fell in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle the following March in a race that was won by that counterpart.

He never really recovered from that and was sent chasing, where he was very hit or miss. His big day in the sun came when he won the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day 2019.

Given a seasonal run out after an absence in a Grade 2 at Wetherby over hurdles in October, he should strip much fitter now dropping down in class.
