776-mile round trip: Jane Williams sends two to Sedgefield for the first time ever

Jane Williams trains near the rather picturesque village of George Nympton in Devon and you can certainly see why she doesn’t make regular trips to Sedgefield up in County Durham. Yet to have a runner there in her career so far, that could be about to change.

Williams is set to send two runners on the 776-mile round trip to Sedgefield on Wednesday. That is no short journey and connections won’t want to come home empty-handed. We’ve combined both horses into an interesting double. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.40 Sedgefield

Galice Macalo (9-4, Paddy Power) always looked capable of winning races over fences and she successfully lost her maiden tag at Leicester last time out. A 4lb rise is more than fair for that 14-length victory and on that evidence, she should be capable of going in again. The soft ground should be to her liking once again and this looks like a good opportunity. She was an easy winner over hurdles off this mark in January 2023 and the trip is ideal here.

4.10 Sedgefield

Kooky (8-1, Paddy Power) has plenty to prove off the back of his bitterly disappointing effort on handicap debut at Wincanton last time out. He had shown some promise when a keeping on third at Chepstow back in April and the step up in trip will suit on that evidence. This horse is well and truly unexposed however and it’s likely that the best is yet to come. Although plenty of improvement is required, it’s too early to be writing him off and he’s entitled to take a step forward.
