1.15 Cheltenham – Induno

Markel Insurance Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

David Pipe has an incredible record in the first race of the afternoon, the Markel Insurance Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle. Since 2010, he’s won the contest four times, which bodes extremely well for the chances of Induno under six-pound claimer Fergus Gillard.

A bumper winner at Ffos Las to kick off his 2019/20 campaign, he made a winning hurdling debut at Sedgefield subsequently. He’s been absent since Boxing Day, where he disappointed over the 2m 4f distance.

He now goes handicapping off a manageable looking rating and he’s completely unexposed for his in-form stable. Fergus Gillard’s claim is an obvious positive and he won fresh twelve months ago, so there’s plenty to like about his chances.

1.50 Cheltenham – Magic Saint

Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Handicap Chase

It’s far from a secret, but Paul Nicholls has his string running at a remarkable level at present. From his last 57 runners, he’s had 22 winners, which is an astonishing statistic. There looks to be no stopping Ditcheat this season and it gives the chances of Magic Saint an almighty boost.

A winner at Newbury three starts ago, he made his seasonal return in the Old Roan at Aintree three weeks ago. He acquitted himself extremely well to finish sixth, tanking into that contest before being outpaced.

A drop back in distance is of little concern, given Cheltenham’s stiff nature and the fact his Newbury win came over two miles. He remains on a workable rating and with conditions ideal, he holds a very obvious chance.

4.05 Cheltenham – The Bees Knees

Valda Energy Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

Fergal O’Brien‘s string has surged back to form in the last few days. The Gloucestershire based trainer has landed five winners in the past seven days from seventeen runners, returning a healthy 30% strike-rate.

One of his big chances on Day 1 of the November Meeting is The Bees Knees, who arrives chasing a hat-trick of wins. He was an impressive fifteen length winner of a Musselburgh handicap nine days ago, shouldering a seven-pound penalty as a result.

He is, however, eight pounds well in under that penalty, which gives him an excellent chance of following up under Max Kendrick.
