The going is currently heavy, soft in places at Ffos Las ahead of their meeting on Wednesday. It’s particularly difficult to get through the ground at Ffos Las when it’s heavy and that means it requires a certain type of horse. We’ve picked out three horses with proven records on heavy ground that should thrive in the conditions. Many will struggle in that ground so it should prove to be a huge advantage. Keppage has the ideal combination of four wins on soft or heavy ground and an excellent course record. David Pipe’s charge won a handicap hurdle here over 2m4f on his final start of last season. He’s had wind surgery over the summer and makes his debut over fences here. Having won twice here last season, a big run could well be on the cards.
Grove Road beat the useful King Of Ryhope on heavy ground at Carlisle in October 2022. He followed that up with a hard-fought win under a penalty at Hereford on soft ground. This gelding’s only disappointing effort to date came on good to soft ground which suggests he’s likely to thrive in the testing underfoot conditions here.
Pageant Material has won three times during her career and all three victories have come here on heavy ground. This makes her uniquely suited to the task at hand and everything is set for a big run. She won over course and distance off a 1lb lower mark back in March and that certainly bodes well for her chances.
