Brighton is a very unconventional track, as it’s sharp and undulating. It’s a course which doesn’t suit all horses, which means you could want to select those with proven records. We’ve picked out three horses running there on Monday with multiple course victories to their name. These three runners should have a significant advantage over those who have failed to win at the Sussex track previously. Big Time Maybe is a three-time winner at this track and all three have come over this trip. He appears here off the back of a very comfortable victory at Lingfield last time out, having been somewhat out of form for a while. His last course and distance victory came in June 2021 and having returned to form last time out, back-to-back wins could be on the cards. The handicapper hit him with a 7lb rise for that victory last time but he can go well again, now that his confidence has returned.
Seattle King has won two of his three starts here at Brighton and there should be plenty more to come from this four-year-old. His last three races have all come here and he returned to the winners’ enclosure for the first time since his debut, when winning over 1m2f last month. Following that up with a below-par effort over this trip next time, he made amends the next day by winning over 1m2f again. There’s plenty of stamina in his pedigree so giving him another go at this trip could be worthwhile.
Otago is also a two-time winner here, including on his penultimate start over 7f. He’s yet to win over a mile but he was denied by just a nose over course and distance last season and on that evidence, he should be capable of doing so. It’s also notable that he was a narrow second over a mile at Lingfield on his seasonal debut last month.
