Seven Nation Army took a big step forward when finishing second to I Ready on handicap debut at the Curragh earlier this month and he’s 2lb better off with that rival this time around. There should be more to come from him in handicap company and victory could be on the cards sooner rather than later.

Meriden has been a credit to herself and connections so far this season, improving significantly with every run. Landing a five-timer when winning a Listed race at Killarney when last seen, a similar effort here would give the three-year-old every chance of coming out on top once again.

Shadow Paddy has been in fine form since making the switch to fences and he remains unbeaten in two starts over the larger obstacles. Le Coq Hardi had no answer to him at Limerick in May and having won a Listed novice hurdle last year, winning this Grade 3 event shouldn’t be beyond him.

This looks like a thoroughly competitive novice hurdle, with all eight of the runners having won over hurdles before. Willie Mullins’ Roc Dino gets the nod however, as he won a maiden hurdle at Downpatrick in very good style last time. He can build on that and there should be more to come.

Gameball won a Ballinrobe bumper with plenty in hand for Andrew Slattery on his first start under rules last summer and got the job done in good style on hurdling debut at Punchestown in October for current connections. Bumping into a well handicapped horse when second in a Kilbeggan handicap last time, the drop back in trip could suit and the best is surely yet to come from him.
