We’ve selected three horses to consider adding to your shortlist for the big race. Take a look at our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Happy Pharoah

Three-year-olds get a 9lb allowance here and that can make a huge difference at this stage of the season. Donnacha O’Brien’s Happy Pharoah has an excellent pedigree and should be a Group 1 horse. He has progressed nicely in handicaps this season however and won a big prize at Leopardstown recently. provided the trip is no issue, a big run could well be on the cards.

Filey Bay

Emmet Mullins is one to watch in big handicaps and he won this race back in 2020. Filey Bay was last seen bolting up in a decent race at the Galway Festival and it’s hard to argue with a 10lb rise. Seven of the last 10 winners had also won over hurdles and this dual-purpose performer fits that profile perfectly.

Shackleton

Aidan O’Brien has won this race twice in the last three years and Shackleton has a similar profile to 2024 winner The Euphrates. The son of Camelot was a close up fourth in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and that form has worked out well.

Only Al Riffa was too good in Group 2 company here after that and he’s entitled to go close. Big weights aren’t a problem in this race, as evidenced by last year’s winner, and Wayne Lordan has picked him over Queenstown and London City.
