Liam tipped the 16/1 Sprint Cup winner and he’s back with a 25/1 St Leger fancy

Saturday’s big race was the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock and Big Mojo came out on top, with William Buick on board. This horse was Liam Bramall’s ante-post selection earlier in the week and the SP of 16/1 isn’t to be sniffed at. He’s back with another ante-post selection at a big price in the St Leger on Saturday.

St Leger (Saturday)

Tarriance (25/1, bet365) is an improving three-year-old and this looks like the ideal test for a first foray into Group company. Andrew Balding’s colt only made his debut in April and it’s unlikely that we’ve seen the best of him yet. He got off the mark at the second time of asking, when winning a novice at Beverley.

Defeat under a penalty in a 1m4f novice here doesn’t necessarily bode well but he made no mistake on handicap debut after that. Runner-up Pendragon is a progressive sort over 1m6f and that form could end up working out well.

This son of Frankel took a big step forward to win the Melrose Handicap at the Ebor Festival last time and the switch to Group races was inevitable. The handicapper has put him up to 101, which gives him plenty to find with Aidan O’Brien-trained pair of Scandinavia and Lambourn.

He’s improving with every run over this sort of trip and it would be unwise to rule him out. Juddmonte won this race in 2019 with Logician and they will be keen to add to that tally, especially as rivals Coolmore have won the last two renewals.
