‘Both have serious chances’ – Paul Nicholls sends two runners to Newton Abbot

Paul Nicholls is the leading trainer at Newton Abbot so far this season with 10 winners. Having had just 20 runners, the Ditcheat handler is operating at a strike-rate of 50 per cent. This stat makes him the trainer to follow at the track on Monday. He has two runners across the card and both have serious chances so we’ve highlighted them. Harry Cobden is on board for one and conditional Jay Tidball rides the other runner. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

2.20 Newton Abbot

Roadshow will surely be getting off the mark sooner or later and he finished second in a novice here in May. A reproduction of that form would surely give him every chances but the longer trip isn’t guaranteed to suit, having been outstayed over 2m3f at Warwick after that.

Unlucky when unseating in handicap company here last time, you can’t read too much into that and he deserves another chance here. Harry Cobden is the track’s top jockey so far this season and having him in the saddle is always a positive.

2.50 Newton Abbot

Centara has taken very well to fences, after taking a couple of starts to get the hang of things. He bolted up at Hereford in May and the result never looked in doubt, despite jumping to his left. The son of Sageburg made all the running when following up over course and distance next time and similar tactics could pay dividends.

Jockey Jay Tidball also has a 50 per cent strike-rate at the track this season and that increases to 60 when combining with Paul Nicholls. A 10lb rise isn’t particularly generous but he had loads in hand last time and looks well worth keeping on side for the time being.
