‘He looks massively overpriced’ – Liam’s 20/1 Dublin Racing Festival best bet

One of the highlights of the Irish National Hunt calendar, the Dublin Racing Festival provides two days of top quality racing action. It’s set to take place at Leopardstown this week and there are no fewer than eight Grade 1 races to look forward to.

Our ante-post Day 1 fancies can be found here but Liam’s strongest fancy of the two-day fixture could line up on Day 2. The horse in question brings some rock-solid form to the table and appears to have been unfairly glossed over at a price of 20/1. Why not take a look at our free tips page too, where you can find our strongest selections daily.

Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (2.10 Sunday)

Quilixios (20/1, bet365) takes the eye here and there’s lots to like about his profile. Henry de Bromhead’s eight-year-old was an impressive winner of the Triumph Hurdle in his juvenile days and there have been some recent signs that he’s coming back to somewhere near his best.

Comfortably getting the better of Marine Nationale in a Grade 3 at Naas in November, he’s entitled to confirm that form here. His accurate jumping underpinned that eye-catching performance and if putting in a similar display here, there’s every reason to believe he can be in the mix.

Gaelic Warrior heads the market and whilst he has the raw ability to win this easily, he can be a little enigmatic. This makes him worth taking on at skinny odds and Marine Nationale is also easy to oppose. We probably shouldn’t take Solness’ performance here over Christmas at face value either. Joseph O’Brien’s gelding was destroyed by Jonbon in the Tingle Creek and Quilixios managed to finish second.

You wouldn’t want to rule out a minor shock taking place in this race and Quilixios could be the one to do it. It’s mad that he’s double the odds of Solness and he looks massively overpriced at 20/1.
