Wet weather has been blighting Britain over the last few weeks and as such, conditions at Leicester on Tuesday are set to be very testing. The going description at time of writing is heavy and that means you’ll be on the lookout for horses that won’t get stuck in the mud. We’ve got you covered with three selections that have proven records in soft and heavy ground. These horses should glide through the mud and are well worth following. Red Derek isn’t the most prolific winner but he’s the only horse in the field to have won on heavy ground before. His only other success came on soft ground and that certainly bodes well for his chances. Lisa Williamson’s gelding put in his best display of the season when second by a neck on soft ground at Nottingham in May and has to be dangerous off a 4lb lower mark here.
Zip loves some give in the ground and has won six times on soft or heavy. Richard Fahey’s eight-year-old was last successful on the turf in heavy ground at Doncaster just shy of a year ago. Currently on a 6lb lower mark, a return to winning ways shouldn’t be ruled out. Oisin McSweeney takes a further 3lb off and this looks like a good opportunity.
Harswell Duke is an experienced operator and all four of his victories have come on soft or heavy ground. It hasn’t been the best of seasons for the six-year-old but a couple of narrow defeats off a 4lb higher mark in April suggest he’s capable of winning again.
