The King George VI Chase takes place at Kempton on Boxing Day and the Grade 1 event should be a race to look forward to. There are some serious candidates that could run this year, making it potentially one of the strongest renewals for a while. A Willie Mullins superstar has been well backed in the last 24 hours and has been propelled into favouritism. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Allaho has been one of the most talented horses in training in recent years. Willie Mullins’ nine-year-old absolutely bolted up in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham in 2021 and 2022. Injury led to him missing out on the opportunity to make it three-in-a-row this year.
It would appear that he is as good as ever, on the evidence of his comeback run at Clonmel last month. He’s entitled to improve plenty for the run and won easily on his last attempt at three miles. Kempton is one of the easier top tracks and often suits horses with a bit of pace and Allaho’s electrifying performances at Cheltenham indicate that he has that in abundance.
Having been available at 7-2 Sunday, Allaho is now as short as 15-8 and currently heads the market. This move coincides with the fact that fellow Irish raider Gerri Colombe is weak in the market and can now be backed at 9-2, having been as short as 5-2.
The best case scenario is that both Allaho and Gerri Colombe both turn up in fine form. Those two Irish raiders could be taking on last year’s winner Bravemansgame and Nicky Henderson’s Shishkin. It would be one hell of a race if they all line up and Allaho deserves to be at the head of the market.
