Ireland loves a big gamble and there’s yet another one underway at Punchestown on Wednesday. One runner who was available at 66-1 on Tuesday evening has been the subject of sustained market support, which has capitulated its price. The horse in question is making its racecourse debut and the best available price is now just 10-1. This could be one to watch out for and it’s a fascinating move. Casheldale Lad is the horse in question and he makes his debut for Andrew Kinirons in the Median Auction Maiden. The County Kildare-based trainer is one to watch, having had one winner from just two runners in the last fortnight. That winner was an impressive one as well, scoring by over four lengths at Down Royal last week. Kinirons has done well to get five winners this season from a relatively small pool of 40 runners. If Casheldale Lad was to win here, it would be his first three-year-old winner of the campaign.
He wears a hood for his debut and there’s enough evidence in his pedigree to suggest he can win races. Those wins aren’t guaranteed to come on the Flat however, as his half-sister won 2m6f-3m2f hurdle races. Having said that, his dam placed over 7f so this 1m1f test could well prove suitable.
It has to be said that this is a warm race for the grade with some competitive-looking maidens in opposition. This means it may require a huge performance to win here and it’s hard to know what to expect on his first start. The market seems full of confidence and if that support is anything to go by, he may well be in the mix at the business end of the race.
