Top Irish jockey travels all the way to Doncaster for just one ride on Saturday ✈️ ☘️

2.55 Doncaster

Upon looking through the cards for what should be a great day’s racing, I stumbled upon the fact Darragh O’Keeffe is making the long journey to Doncaster for just one ride. I do ask myself why he is going to the trouble of doing so, especially as there is a card at Navan where he could have picked up some rides.

O’Keeffe will ride the Jennie Candlish-trained horse Cheddleton, who will try to carry top weight to victory in this Class 2 handicap chase. It has been a positive to carry weight in this race as three of the last five winners carried 11st 12lb to victory – Getaway Trump, Upsilon Bleu and San Benedeto.

Cheddleton has won three times on heavy ground so the forecast conditions will be perfect for him. The seven-year-old son of Shirocco has run well in defeat in all four starts this season and had excuses last time out as the ground was a tad on the quick side. Now down to a career low mark, he could be poised to take full advantage.
