‘These three love a splash in the mud’ – Soft ground horses to follow at Newbury 🌧️ 🌧️

Newbury - Horatio Hornblower and Sam Twiston-Davies

The going at Newbury Racecourse is currently soft so it is going to take a bit of getting. Stamina holds the key to success at the track on Wednesday. We have picked out three horses who ought to appreciate the conditions on the day. These three love a splash in the mud.

12.15 Newbury

GRAN LUNA runs for the powerful Seven Barrows with Nico de Boinville in the plate and will relish soft ground. She won her bumper over this course and distance on soft ground so the fact she has proper course form should stand to her. Her only other run on soft was at Market Rasen when third to Martello Sky, who recently won a Cheltenham handicap off 140.

2.00 Newbury

DASHEL DRASHER was a Grade 1 winner over fences and has to be respected back hurdling from just a mark of 149. He was in need of the run when third in an Ascot Grade 2 on his return to action but his sights are very much lowered here. He has only finished out of the frame once from seven starts on soft ground and is a serious each-way player.

3.05 Newbury

LOSSIEMOUTH is one of the most progressive horses in training and is two from two on soft ground. Tom Lacey’s runner won back to back handicaps with ease at Ascot and Ffos Las before landing a Grade 2 by 14 lengths at Sandown in December. He was by far the most experienced of that bunch on the day but the manner of his victory was still very impressive. This will be a much greater test but he is entitled to plenty of respect.
