Deauville is located in the Normandy region of France, in the heart of the country’s main horse breeding area. It has two tracks, one offering flat racing on turf and the all-weather, with the other offering flat, trotting and obstacle courses.
The track hosts a number of high-quality meetings in the French horse racing calendar each and every year, including five Group 1 races and the Prix Jacques Le Marois, run in August over a mile, is the most well known among the general public. Since 2010, the winner of the race gets an invitation to take part in the Breeders’ Cup Mile in America and it often attracts some top class milers.
Our tipsters will be providing their betting picks and predictions for all of Deauville’s big meetings and Group 1 contests throughout the year, and the myracing website will have cards and comments from the Racing Post available for punters researching their own selections.
During the season, Deauville has a number of Group and Listed races on show, with no less than five Group 1 events – the Prix Maurice de Gheest, Prix Rothschild, Prix Jacques Le Marois, Darley Prix Morny, and the Darley Prix Jean Romanet make up the track’s top-level races.
On the roll of honour for those races includes the likes of Miesque, Goldikova, Arazi and many more excellent thoroughbreds. With all of the races occurring between July and August, and fine weather virtually assured, a visit to Deauville is a must and you can attend for as little as €8!
Four trainers made it into double-figures for the Deauville Trainers Championship in 2019 and coming out on top of those was the legendary Andre Fabre, who hit 19 winners from 98 runners with 53 placing. Jean-Claude Rouget was a further five behind on 14 from 93 runners whilst it was a tie for third place between the Barberot and Wattel stables. You can’t go too far wrong backing their horses around here.
The Jockey Championship was a livelier affair with first to fifth separated by just five winners. Claiming the title was Cristian Demuro with 29 wins from 239, whilst Mickael Barzalona had 27 from 202 to grab second spot. Maxime Guyon and Theo Bachelot had 26 a piece with Guyon claiming third as a result of having more placed horses.
You can view all of the regular and Group 1 action from Deauville on Sky Sports Racing, Sky channel number 415, 535 on Virgin and 418 on Virgin Ireland, or via the streaming services provided by major bookmakers.
