1.50pm Lingfield Tips & Betting Preview 17/11/2015

A pretty impressive line up for a mid week handicap on the all-weather though as always, one or two will fall by the wayside by race time unfortunately. At Lingfield, the draw over ten furlongs makes little difference as far as we can see, so one less thing to worry about, though front runners don’t have the best of records here with the final bend inclined to almost launch one of the covered up horses toward the line where it really matters. With over £12,000 in prize money, some of the bigger Newmarket yards see fit to do a bit of pot hunting headed by Mythical Madness (4/1) for trainer Charlie Appleby and the Godolphin team. A son of top sire Dubawi, both his wins have been at the ten-furlong trip though interesting, both were at Windsor, with six losses over the mile and a quarter to balance that out more realistically. A first time visor (missing here) failed to bring back the old sparkle at Ayr last time out in the same class as he faces today, and he has only been dropped a miserly pound for finishing eleven lengths sixth of seven that day, which may not be enough to make him competitive here.

Bottom weight Starlit Cantata (8/1) has been consistent in lesser races but with great effect for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton with a first three finish in all six races in 2015, and three of those victorious, all over this course and distance. The daughter of Oratorio clearly likes it round here but has gone up a total of ten pounds this year, three of them for her last win when all out to hold off Light Wave by a head at the line. On the bright side, that was her first run for over three months so there is a good chance she will strip a bit fitter this afternoon, and with her liking for track and trip, she may yet be able to take this step up in class in her stride.

Young Cameron Noble is a relatively inexperienced jockey but gets to take seven pounds of the back of the Roger Varian trained One Pekan (7/1) who would go close here on his best form and has enough experience to suggest that if he can get out of the stalls on level terms he will at least run in to a place. His second last time out when slowly away at Chelmsford did see his jockey take a bit of stick after being beaten a short head at the line, and if he falls out of the stalls again that will clearly hinder his chances, but his rider is still learning race by race and looks a decent enough talent to suggest he could yet ride a winner here.

Meanwhile, supporters of Ansaab (8/1) will be hoping his chances slip under the radar as the seven-year-old looks to win race number five and his second over course and distance.  Trained by Michael Appleby in Danethorpe, he isn’t exactly the most obvious choice but has clocked some decent enough times over the years and he has a rating four pounds lower today than his last CD win in April, so who is to say that back on the polytrack he won’t be able to repeat past exploits.

Lastly, we can’t just ignore Franklin D (9/2) for trainer Michael Bell and jockey William Twiston-Davies as the three year old steps up to this trip for the first time today, which on breeding may be just what he needs. Although he only has the one win to his name (over a mile at Sandown), all his recent wins have seen him running on over eight or nine furlongs, and as a three year old, he may have a little bit more room for improvement than all of his rivals here.
