IN SUMMARY: CAPEHIDEAWAY was running consistently well at the end of last season and can pick up where he left off and take this for his in form stable. Clan Legend won well two starts ago and if returning to that form now freshened up would be a danger to the selection.
CLAN LEGEND – Won two starts ago when staying on well but was a bit lacklustre on his final start of the season. Reappears now after a break and no surprise if he goes well off just two pounds higher than his last winning mark, one for the shortlist.
CAPE THE HIDEAWAY – Won three starts ago and followed that performance up with a couple of respectable runs. Has had a break since June now and Mark Walford has been in good form the last few weeks so should go well here.
VERTIGO – Won easily at Ayr in March and was good again two starts ago at Perth. His profile has a slightly patchy look to it as he is not overly consistent but he has the ability to win off a mark like this if on a going day, considered.
ANIKNAM – A lightly raced type who was pulled up after a long time off the course when last seen. It has to be taken on trust whether he retains all his ability but was second off a five pound higher mark in 2015 so has potential to be well handicapped.
PISTOL – Has a strike rate of four wins from thirty attempts over hurdles and has been beaten a long way in his last few starts. Hasn’t won since February 2016 and will need to return to the form of that effort if he is to be winning this.
MINELLA FIVEO – Won back at Uttoxeter in January but has been comfortably beaten in each start since. He has slipped down to just one pound higher than his last winning mark as a result however and has the ability to go well in this company.
BEYONDTEMPTATION – Pulled up two starts ago and trailed in last at Sedgefield next time which doesn’t inspire much confidence. He won off a five pound higher mark in May but has been out of sorts since and really needs a revival here.
SURPRISE VENDOR – Won back in May at Ayr and races off just four pounds higher today. He has been a shade disappointing the last twice and the handicapper has only dropped him two pounds which leaves him requiring a bit more.
WITNESS – Has had just six starts overall in his career and only four of those over hurdles. This is a race full of exposed types and he is not one of them, has plenty of potential on his handicap debut and should be monitored in the market.
TOMAHAWK WOOD – Won at Ayr in January but failed to cope with a five pound higher mark the next two times and has been beaten a combined eighty lengths in those two starts. Hasn’t been given much of a chance by the handicapper and needs a step forward today.
