IN SUMMARY: Above Board won in the style of a useful horse at Worcester on chasing debut and is greatly respected, but it’s hard to get away from ASK THE WEATHERMAN. He was a great seventh in the Foxhunters at the Cheltenham Festival and has won a Point to Point since, taking his record to 9/10 in that sphere. He remains with huge amounts of potential under rules and isn’t for catching here.
ASK THE WEATHERMAN – Eight year old for Jack Barber who finished a brilliant seventh in the Foxhunters Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, winning a Point to Point since. He returns to rules filled with potential and isn’t for catching here.
SWINCOMBE SCORCHIO – Won at Chepstow two starts ago by a wide margin but upped in grade he failed to impress when brushed aside at Cheltenham in April. Still early days and the ground was an excuse for his latest run, so he’s not one to dismiss.
ROYAL PALLADIUM – Course and distance winner three starts ago when making all but he’s not been seen since a disappointing run at Ludlow. He’s only a pound lower here and he’s yet to place off a mark this high, so others have far stronger claims.
DEFINITLY GREY – Improved on a good enough reappearance when scoring at Chepstow last month, unchallenged when storming clear at the 15th. That was a strange race and he’s 14lb higher here, so could only be given each way claims.
ABOVE BOARD – Another last time out winner, taking his seasonal/chasing debut in good style. That wasn’t a strong race but he did it well enough and remains with huge amounts of potential. Barry Geraghty takes the ride and it’s his only one of the day, so he’s greatly respected.
I AM COLIN – Won three starts ago at Bangor off four pounds lower but he’s been highly disappointing in three runs since, pulled up twice before finishing tailed off at Stratford. He goes well fresh though and has dropped back down in the weights, so couldn’t be discounted.
WIZARDS BRIDGE – Course and distance winner way back in November 2015 off four pounds higher, winning at Fontwell on his latest start by a neck. He idled close home so a three pound rise looks lenient and he holds leading claims with conditions to suit.
YOU SAY WHAT – Dual winner over hurdles for Neil King but he’s been well beaten on all three of his starts over fences, pulled up at Plumpton on his latest attempt. Well beaten on stable debut for David Pipe in April and is passed over here.
CASTARNIE – Three time winner over the larger obstacles who made virtually all at Hereford when last seen in March, raised nine pounds as a result. There may be more to come but his record fresh isn’t fantastic and he’s entitled to need this.
ONLY GORGEOUS – Consistent sort who tends to run his race but signed off the summer with a very poor run at Uttoxeter in June, finishing only fourth. His current mark demands further progress and he looks vulnerable here.
