7.45pm Wexford Tips & Betting Preview 07/06/2017

A field of eight go to post for the sixth race of the evening jumps meeting at Wexford on Wednesday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: BENTELIMAR has some solid form in here, had the beating of Woodland Opera in a race won by American Tom. If able to replicate that he should be able to confirm the placings with Velocity Boy who is the likely favourite. Willie Mullins sends Dicosimo who clearly has talent but has trouble putting it all together. Potters Point will be one to watch in the market as he looks to build on some promising efforts for Gordon Elliott.

1 DICOSIMO – The Mullins yard has been hit and miss over the past week with some short priced favourites being turned over but they are still getting their winners. Paul Townend takes the ride today and he’ll have to have his wits about him as Dicosimo is no stranger to scattering the birch off a fence. Has contested some hot races in the past with a role of winners including Superb Story, Peach and Co, Anibale Fly and exciting prospect Great Field. His form is also a bit sketchy, finishing a 5 length second to Champagne Harmony who was pulled up in a race won by our tip Kilcarry Bridge. Will need to step up his game and cut out the jumping errors.

2 POTTERS POINT – Looks an exciting recruit to Gordon Elliott’s chasing ranks this season. Recent form looks good in this company, 2nd to Willie Mullins’ Townshend who has some very useful form with some McManus runners who have ran very well this season. Also has some form that ties in with Woodland Opera who put Dicosimo quite firmly in his place 2 starts back. Looks set to go close to grabbing a second Chase win under Bryan Cooper.

3 VELOCITY BOY – Clearly well thought of by connections having being tried at Grade 1 level twice like Dicosimo. Looks like making a useful chaser judged on a decent effort before unseating rider last time out in Grade 1 company and some previous run. Was held up and came with a decent finish before jinking at the fence that day. His run 2 races back was also promising finishing behind Edwulf, who ran well at Cheltenham before getting injured and Space Cadet who was pitched into some competitive company afterwards. The slight drop back in trip shouldn’t hold any concerns but would probably like some ease underfoot.

4 BENTELIMAR – Hasn’t won in 2 years but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Tried at Grade 2 level over hurdles and ran within 4¾L of Ivan Grozny and 7 length to from Sempre Medici and also ran 9th in Douvan’s Supreme Hurdle. Also ran within 5 lengths of De Plotting Shed who has proven himself useful being placed at Grade 2 level. Hard to really say what went wrong at Punchestown in November on his only Graded attempt over fences as the visibility was extremely poor, but showed no ill effects when a respectable third to American Tom with Velocity Boy and Woodland Opera in-behind which gives us a good idea of what to expect in this company. Gets a handy 6lbs from the 3 rivals above.

5 GO IT ALONE – A very consistent sort for Colin Bowe recent from figures reading 23332 but hasn’t been able to get a win since last year. Finished 2nd to Bailly Moon last time out who he also finished behind in the race before that where he was third to Charles Brynes’ Top Of The Town, that form not a whole lot to shout about. Looks to have a fair bit to find in with a few of these today but Rachael Blackmore doing the steering can help.

6 LION IN HIS HEART – Looks a very tricky customer for Gigginstown having ran out 2 of his last 3 races. Finished stone last on his last completed run over hurdles to Willie Mullins’ Saturnas. Fell 4 runs back and despite some decent signs last time out will need to take a massive step forward and really love fences to get involved.

7 ANNAMATOPOEIA – Better Chaser than hurdler and has really done well the last twice having turned over Rock On The Moor at Roscommon at the beginning of May and then a respectable 10 length second to Graded winner Listen Dear 2 weeks ago. Probably worth looking who was behind rather than in-front as the winner done it very easily, Water Sprite came out and ran a decent third to the bang in-form Is She Diesel. Will probably need to step-up to get involved but clearly in fine fettle.

8 ASPEN COLORADO – Gets weight from all the field on Chase debut. Looked to be a very promising prospect in his early days for Aidan O’Brien and was tried at Grade 1 level in Blow By Blow’s Champion Bumper at Punchestown. Started favourite 4 out of 5 starts over hurdles. Would have a fair bit to find with these and can only be watched on Chase debut.
