6.30pm Dundalk Tips & Betting Preview 07/10/2016

This is a very competitive handicap but it could pay to take a chance on the John Feane trained TWIST OF MAGIC who will bounce out and try make all. The front running Arcano filly won a nursery handicap at Down Royal two starts back in the hands of Colin Keane over seven furlongs. She then looked a sure winner turning for home at Naas over the mile but just didn’t get home and finished up 5th of the 18 runners. She is back down in trip here so has to be a huge player of just 8-10.

1 TAJ MAHAL – Aidan O’Brien trained Galileo colt that has been very disappointing this season. Has some fancy Group 1 entries so is clearly highly thought of but he is yet to show that much on the racecourse. Has some good placed form behind some very decent types but was a poor 7th in a Newmarket maiden behind Frankel foal winner Eminent last month and has to concede weight to the field here.

2 ROCK IN PEACE – Kodiac filly trained by Ger Lyons who is in good form at present. Was backed off the board on debut when 2nd here at Dundalk over 5f, just finding a progressive horse too good. Didn’t get involved at the Curragh and Naas after that but she caught the eye on her latest start at the Curragh when 2nd to Istan. One of the more likely contenders back on polytrack.

3 BREATH OF TRUTH – Chris Hayes is a jockey that always does well around this track and this colt must have a solid each way chance. He had a terrible draw out in the car park in Stall 14 when 2nd to Hunaina here at Dundalk last time out over 6f. He can attack from Stall 5 here so should save a lot more ground. Solid chance.

4 THOMAS O’MALLEY – Badly hampered on the rail here at Dundalk last time out when 6th behind Hunaina. Looked sure to play a part in the finish and still looks relatively well treated. Good 2nd here the run before that and Anna O’Brien takes off 5 pounds. Place claims.

5 NOBLE INTENTION – Blinkers didn’t have the desired effect for this Zebedee gelding at the Curragh last time out; a well beat 6th of 9. Showed promise on soft ground at Navan last month when 4th and possibly needs soft turf ground to be seen at his best. Best watched.

6 JOYCE COMPTON – Won a seven furlong good ground handicap at Gowran Park in August with Twist Of Magic back in 4th. Went off the 5/2 favourite at Naas over five furlongs last time out but he clearly needs further, never got going and was outpaced. This will be a more suitable test and Billy Lee is booked.

7 LADY DERRYNANE – Two year old filly by Rip Van Winkle who showed plenty when 2nd at Tipperary on her second start over the extended seven furlongs. Couldn’t land a blow in her recent maiden at Gowran Park over a mile but she is in good hands and this is her handicap debut.

8 DINKY INTY – Timothy Doyle trained filly that comes here seeking her hat-trick of victories. Won a Naas claimer before going on to win a heavy ground nursery at Fairyhouse. This is a much tougher test (those wins came in small fields) but she has a good draw.

9 SHEISDIESEL – Harbour Watch filly trained by Noel Meade who has had plenty of opportunities to date without success. Decent run over this course and distance last week when 3rd to the impressive Ger Lyons debutant winner Glastonberry Song but more needed here to trouble the market leaders.

10 MAGNIFICATION – Very frustrating gelding who has spoiled several gambles for his connections to date. Always runs a good race but always seems to find a couple too good. Handicap debut off a decent mark and the visor goes on first time. Shouldn’t be too far away but the draw in Stall 10 isn’t ideal.

11 TWIST OF MAGIC – Polytrack debut for John Feane who is in superb form the past few weeks and also loves a winner at Dundalk. Poor draw in Stall 11 but she will bounce out and try make all. Stays the seven furlongs very well and will hopefully put the race to bed a furlong out.

12 FLUORESCENT ROCK – Well beat on all eight starts to date and was 11 lengths behind Dinky Inty at Fairyhouse last time out. Has to improve a tonne to get involved in this. Impossible to fancy.

13 TANKSALOT – The only positive to say about this horse is her draw in Stall 1. Tailed off on all five starts to date and needs to show a lot more to be considered.
