5.20pm Yarmouth Tips & Betting Preview 06/06/2017

This is a Class 5 handicap over seven furlongs, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This is a competitive handicap and the John Gosden trained BLUE ON BLUE can come out on top. He’s been raised 3lbs for a neck success last time out and he looks just the sort to improve again and he can win another Class 5 handicap. Herm could outrun his odds with the benefit of a recent run whilst Always Thankful is another that looks slightly overlooked in the betting.

1 BLUE ON BLUE – Improved to win on his handicap debut back in April to score by a neck from some modest sorts. The handicapper has been fair and only raised him 3lbs in the weights which allows him to remain in Class 5 company off top weight. He should confirm the confirm with Widnes today and should improve again off what should be a workable mark still.

2 ENVISAGING – Finished second in a 3-runner event at Lingfield back in January and it was disappointing that he couldn’t win a maiden at the fifth attempt in February. Connections have now gelded him and he’s dropped back in trip here which should be fine for this son of Zoffany. Silvestre De Sousa is a positive booking and he would be of interest with market support for a yard that have a 27% strike rate in the past fortnight.

3 VALLEY OF ROCKS – Hasn’t been beaten all that far in two maidens this season and he makes his handicap debut today off a mark of 75. That looks stiff enough on what he’s shown so far although he is unexposed and this yard is likely to get a tune out of him soon. The ground shouldn’t be a problem but he’s likely to want further than this given he’s by Big Bad Bob and others are preferred.

4 BEQUIA – Another handicap debutante and this daughter of Helmet was bitterly disappointing last time out. She was sent off 4/9 in a weak looking maiden and she looked all at sea and was never able to land a blow on the winner over 5 furlongs. She’s stepped right up in trip today off a mark of 75 and she’s a risky prospect in this on the back of that with a 7lb claimer utilised today.

5 CASINA DI NOTTE – Wasn’t beaten all that far at Haydock in April over a mile and he’s dropped in trip today which looks perfect for this son of Casamento. He’s been dropped a pound in the weights and looks versatile in terms of ground so there’s every chance he takes a big step forward today off what looks to be a reasonable enough mark. The yard is operating at a 12% strike rate at present.

6 WONDER OF DUBAI – Has finished second on all three starts for Michael Bell this year and he’s been raised a pound for the latest of those efforts. The drop-in trip is probably right for him and he certainly has enough ability to win off this mark although he’s going to need things to drop right for him to get his head in front here. Connections are yet to geld this son of So You Think.

7 ALWAYS THANKFUL – Has struggled to follow up her promising maiden effort on her first run of the season over 6 furlongs. She struggled in a big field last time out and this looks just as competitive now she remains at 7 furlongs. Jim Crowley is on board again today and the stable form is slightly concerning, without a winner from their last 8 runners in the past fortnight. The market may guide best.

8 WIDNES – Better off at the weights with Blue On Blue today following a 2 3/4 length defeat to him in April. He was beaten 27 lengths last time out and something was clearly amiss having run no sort of race, eventually finishing last. Joshua Byran claims 7lbs today which will help but he’s lacking concrete form and it may pay to oppose him again today for a yard with a poor 7% strike rate at Yarmouth.

9 SANDWOOD BAY – Finished ninth of twelve, beaten 9 3/4 lengths at Leicester last month and she arrives here off the same mark. She wasn’t far away in a couple of handicaps towards the end of last year but she’s clearly not got much in hand and the first time eye/shield didn’t make much impact last time out. She will need to take a big step forward today and others make much more appeal.

10 HERM – Finished second, beaten 4 lengths at Chester at the end of last season and it was disappointing that he couldn’t better that effort at Goodwood on his final start of the campaign. He looked to need his first start of the season at Windsor last month over 6 furlongs and he should be dangerous now stepped back up in trip with that run under his belt. He’s down another 2lbs and gets a useful 7lbs off his back today.

11 GOLDEN GUEST – Went backwards off a 2lb higher mark at Newmarket last time out and the step up in grade looked to have found him out. He remains in Class 5 company today although this does look slightly easier and he’s back down a pound today. Jane Elliott claims a useful 5lbs but the stable have been quiet of late and he needs to bounce back to form today.

12 BROTHER IN ARMS – Won a Class 6 handicap at Kempton off a mark of 60 in March. He finished ahead of Herm last time out at Windsor but he had the benefit of a recent run and he’s not certain to confirm the form in this. A mark of 64 shouldn’t be beyond him although this tougher grade asks new questions and the stable have a poor 8% strike rate at Yarmouth. Others make more appeal here.
