3.45pm Brighton Tips & Betting Preview 27/06/2017

A field of six go to post for this intriguing handicap at Brighton on Tuesday, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: Ginzan will appreciate this drop back in trip and should be in the shakeup but she will do well to get the better of MR POCKET, who is poised for a third career victory for trainer Paul Cole. He was blocked in his run when second at Salisbury when last seen and he remains on the same mark, so if he running with the same zest again he should be very tough to beat under Luke Morris. Of the remainder, Sanfrankskipsgo would have a place chance at his best for Peter Crate.

1 MONUMENTAL MAN – Inconsistent eight year old who won four starts ago at Lingfield in a small field handicap on the all weather but he has been poor in three runs since, with only his latest run at Chester in soft ground being excusable. He is rated 5lb inferior on the grass which gives him something to prove and although he won off 4lb higher at Lingfield, his latest turf win came way back in April 2015. Capable on his day but very risky for Michael Attwater.

2 GINZAN – Won a three runner fillies’ handicap four starts ago when rallying to lead on the post but she hasn’t been at her best the last thrice, with perhaps the step up in trip to blame. She ran well to a point on her latest start at Windsor over the six, finishing fourth after weakening late on and this drop back in trip is certain to suit. She’s now a pound below her last winning mark and should be able to dominate this small field from the front as she did at Bath. Conditions are to suit and she’s a main contender under Rober Winston.

3 SANDFRANKSKIPSGO – Ran a good race from the front when second here over course and distance on his penultimate start and wasn’t disgraced to finish third at Lingfield when last seen, beaten around two lengths but keeping on well despite being outpaced. He’s now down to a mark of 76 which is seven pounds below his last winning mark, though he is evidently not in the same form as he was last summer. Possible each way contender but more than likely he’ll find at least one too good.

4 MR POCKET – Won three starts ago at Bath when joined on the post to deadheat and he was blocked in his run on his latest start when perhaps coming with a race winning challenge, finishing second in the end. He runs off the same mark today and if in the same form again under Luke Morris with conditions to suit, he looks set to take his third career victory as he looks well treated off today’s mark.

5 OTOMO – Won over the extended five furlongs here back in May but he has been a hugely disappointing favourite the last twice for Philip Hide, last seen three days ago when sixth of seven at Lingfield. He was well beaten that day and has something to prove as he competes off the same mark under Liam Keniry, with these good to firm conditions not guaranteed to be his liking. Too risky today and remains one to watch.

6 SECRET STRATEGY – Won over course and distance on his penultimate start in a maiden for Julia Feilden but was less than impressive when last seen in a classified stakes race, finishing second last after showing little. Makes his handicap debut today off a mark of 72 which requires more, though this drop back in trip should help and the firmer conditions should see him in a better light. That said, he’s still further down the list than most.
