2.40pm Newton Abbot Tips & Betting Preview 10/08/2016

Our race preview focuses on an intriguing Juvenile Hurdle at Newton Abbot. See our betting tips below to work out the form lines that lead to the eventual selection.

IN SUMMARY: Recognition won last time out but that form doesn’t amount to much and he is worth apposing with NACHI FALLS. The selection ran well when not beaten far on hurdles debut and more can be expected of him today. His form ties in with Invocation, who went down by a head last time out to Hygrove Percy. That horse also beat Nachi Falls by 1/2 a length so therefore with improvement the selection may well manage to eek out more to win.

1 RECOGNITION – Runs for the powerful Henderson/De Boinville combination and won on hurdles debut when gamely hanging on to beat an odds on horse at Market Rasen (16.5f, Good). That form however isn’t really much to shout about and under a penalty he may well be vulnerable.

2 DIAMANT BLEU – First time out horse for the Nick Williams stable ridden by Lizzie Kelly claiming 5lbs who is very good value for that. His pedigree is nice, being a half-brother to 6 different winners including a bumper 2m hurdler/chaser. Market will guide on debut and doesn’t need to be something spectacular on debut, so considered.

3 INVOCATION – Fair horse on the flat and has placed on both runs over hurdles, latest when going down by a head to Hygrove Percy at this track (17f, Good to Firm). That form ties in with Nachi Falls who was only beaten half a length by the same horse on debut, and therefore King’s horse could be vulnerable. Dangerous to discount however as he always seems to be there towards the finish.

4 NACHI FALLS – Went down fighting on hurdles debut when only beaten 3 lengths to a promising prospect at Uttoxeter (16f, Good). That form ties in with Invocation, as both horses were beaten by Hygrove Percy by less than half a length. With experience now behind him its not hard to see him progressing to a standard good enough to beat this field.

5 PETITE JACK – 3 raced on the flat when giving off the impression that a trip hurdling could suit him. A lot is taken on faith in terms of him taking to hurdles and seeing out the trip, as thats by no means assured on pedigree. Too risky to recommend but no surprise if he does himself credit.

6 KHISMET – Won 3 times on the flat, but dropped out quite tamely when 5th at Stratford on hurdles debut (16.5f, Good). Wasn’t beaten too far by Invocation that day and has room to improve, but the way he dropped out suggests that he may well need a few more times over hurdles to do himself some justice.
