IN SUMMARY: Huntmans Close ran well on his debut for the Cowell yard, and although he was beaten by Hay Chewed, he’s much better off with that rival. However, SOUTHERN BELLE, her stable mate, is lightly raced compared to these and is progressing nicely, latest when beating a subsequent winner. If finding a bit more improvement under the guidance of Marquand, she is weighted well to beat her rivals.

1 FIELD OF VISION – Has only won once on the AW in August last year at Chemlsford (5f, AW). Running well in defeat since then, he hasn’t really progressed further since March, latest when a disappointing 9th of 10 at Epsom (5f, Good). Needs to up his game and could be badly weighted against some of his rivals.

2 ORANTE – Best effort this season when 5th of 8 in a similar sort of event at Nottingham last month (5f, Good to Firm). This may well be a slightly weaker field so he should be on the premises for his inform trainer William Haggas and top jockey Ryan Moore.

3 BURNT SUGAR – His losing spell continues to grow, now stretching back to August 2014. Two very poor efforts recently, latest when a well beaten off 10th of 10 at Ascot (5f, Good to Firm). On previous form he has it in him to be involved but can he be trusted to get his nose in front on his current form and the losing record?

4 HUNTSMANS CLOSE – A useful handicapper who is weighted pretty well in the context of this race. Latest effort when mid field at Epsom (5f, Good) puts him into the mix, but his form is very sketchy indeed. Just a race before that he finished way down the field in the Wokingham Stakes, and it seems to be that he follows up a few good races with a few poor efforts. If on a going day he will be dangerous.

5 MAJOR PUSEY – Twice a winner in Class 4 company, latest of which came at Newmarket in June (5f, Soft). Two very poor efforts latest, the worst of which coming back at Newmarket (5f, Good to Firm). This is a much tougher assignment and needs to raise his game to even be involved for places here.

6 HAY CHEWED – Just ahead of Huntsman Close at Epsom latest (5f, Good) and although that was a good effort, he meets that rival on much worse terms. Has it in him to be involved but clearly needs to raise his game and is probably vulnerable to an improver.

7 SOUTHERN BELLE – Lighted raced filly who has been progressing nicely, latest when posting a career best at at Nottingham when beating a subsequent winner as both pulled clearly of their rivals (6f, Good). In this field she will need to step up her game, but with natural progression she should be perfectly capable of getting involved for the victory.
