2.10pm Wincanton Tips & Betting Preview 13/12/2016

A hugely Beginners’ Chase is in a prospect at Wincanton, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: This race is highly intriguing with several of these being useful hurdlers making their chase debuts including Robinsfirth, Sir Ivan and Connetable. However preference is for BARNEY DWAN, who was incredibly unlucky not to win on chase debut at Kempton back in November when all but falling at the final fence. He should improve for that effort nonetheless and this drop back in trip won’t be an issue, so he has to be highly respected today. Brother Tedd has to be be considered after 3 decent efforts over fences thus far.

1 BARNEY DWAN – Useful hurdler who readily won a Grade 3 at Sandown back in March and was cruising to the final fence on chase debut at Kempton when all but falling (3m, Good). Either way that was a very good effort and that was his only real mistake of the race, so he should come on leaps and bounds for that effort. The drop back in trip won’t be an issue and he has a huge chance of making amends today.

2 BROTHER TEDD – Thrice raced over fences and posted a career best over those obsatcles latest when not managing to peg back Different Gravey at Ascot in November (2m2f, Good to Soft). That form hasn’t worked out particularly well and he’ll need to show more today for win purposes but does have place chances.

3 GREYBOUGG – Decent enough hurdler but hasn’t impressed over fences thus far, with two poor efforts at Towcester and Market Rasen. Up against it again today.

4 KARL MARX – Poor hurdler in the context of this race and has a huge amount to find on hurdles ratings against these. Needs the switch to fences to make a huge impact and doesn’t make any appeal today.

5 ROBINSFIRTH – Only raced 5 times over hurdles between April 2013 and January 2015 and was useful and progressive for Colin Tizzard, last seen finishing 4th of 9 in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham (2m4f, Soft). Last ran 689 days ago and possibly best watched today against race fit rivals.

6 SIR IVAN – Useful over hurdles and returned this season with a satisfactory 7th of 15 at Aintree back in October (2m4f, Good). Should make a better chaser and has place claims for Harry Fry and Noel Fehily.

7 WISHING AND HOPING – Made a good start over fences when 2nd of 4 at Bangor in October (2m4f, Good), but did fall at Plumpton a few weeks ago (2m3f, Good). Lightly raced in general and has time on his side and has place claims if that fall hasn’t dented the confidence.

8 CONNETABLE – Lightly raced for Paul Nicholls and been in deep end for most of his career, competing in graded races. Returned this season with a good effort at Haydock with a close 4th (2m2f, Heavy), and is interesting now hurdling so has to be respected.
