2.00pm Redcar Tips & Betting Preview 23/07/2017

This is a Class 5 Novice Stakes raced over 7f, see our betting tips and the full race preview below.

IN SUMMARY: There is no need to over-complicate things in this and ARBALET should take this with ease. He’s shown more than enough form to win a race of this nature and there will be more improvement to come from him now stepped up in trip. Jaycols Star could provide some value for the forecast having shown some ability on racecourse debut.

1 FALMOUTH LIGHT – Won a fairly decent Class 5 maiden at Sandown on racecourse debut but he was disappointing at Leicester subsequently. He finished last of four, beaten 8 1/2 lengths that day which leaves him with something to prove today. However, he’s obviously better than he showed that day and he’s tricky to rule out today in conditions that should favour him.

2 ARBALET – Has been well-supported in two career starts and he’s finished second on both occasions. They came in better contests than this and he should progress again now stepped up in trip and kept on fast ground although there are some decent enough sorts lurking against him in this. Hugo Palmer has a respectable 15% strike rate over the past fortnight and his runner should be incredibly difficult to peg back.

3 BARBARIANATTHEGATE – Showed clear improvement for the step up in trip when switched to the All-Weather and he arrives here on the back of a good placed effort earlier this month. He’s slightly more exposed than many of his rival in this and the blinkers may have a dwindling impact so there are reasons to oppose him. The yard have sent out just one winner from their last 18 runner.

4 CRAZY WORLD – Finished last of eleven at Beverley over 5 furlongs on racecourse debut earlier this month. He was always in rear that day and never going the pace of his rivals so it’s no surprise to see him stepped right up in trip on his second career start. He has plenty to find with many of his rivals in this and can only be watched today. Daniel Tudhope is a positive booking though.

5 DAVID FALLOW – Paul Midgley’s runner was gelded earlier this year before making his racecourse debut at Ripon. He was sent off 66/1 that day and ran like his odds suggested he would, running out the back before finishing a remote last. Better is expected today for a yard with a 21% strike rate at present although it would be a major surprise to see him win this.

6 JAYCOLS STAR – Made a pleasing impression on racecourse debut, finishing seventh of a 12-strong field at Chester. He couldn’t quite go the pace that day but he would have learnt plenty from that experience and he could outrun his odds in this. He will encounter faster ground here and he may want further in time so he’s dangerous for win purposes but don’t be surprised to see him get involved.

7 KNOWING GLANCE – Didn’t exactly run like a horse that’s improving on his second career start at Newcastle. He finished a well-beaten fourth that day, beaten 8-lengths although there was money about for him as there was on racecourse debut. He was beaten under 4-lengths by Arbalet on racecourse debut so he may not be far away again now up in trip although he’s evidently got something to find with that runner on form.

8 TEBAY – Steps up in trip today following a modest debut run at Carlisle at the end of last month. He ran with promise that day, finishing fifth of the 8-strong field and he looked as if he would come on plenty for the run. He has it all to do against some decent opposition today and he may be best watched for later in the season. The yard have sent out 4 winners from their last 40 runners.

9 ANGIE B – John Wainwright’s daughter of Acclamation finished 10th of 12 on racecourse debut earlier this month. She was sent off 100/1 that day and she’s likely to start as a big price in this having shown a modest amount of ability. The yard have failed to send out a winner from 35 runners at Redcar and their runner can only be watched in this.

10 GARDINIA – Modest purchase as a yearling, costing 26,000GNS. The yard’s runners generally need a run under their belt before threatening and that should be the case again today. Her dam was un-raced but she’s by Pivotal so she may want slightly further in time and she’s best watched in this for a yard with a 6% strike rate at Redcar.
