Ludlow Betting Tips

Ludlow Racecourse is located in Shropshire, close to the Welsh border, and is a winter track which hosts National Hunt racing. The Forbra Gold Challenge Cup (named in honour of the 50/1 winner of the 1932 Grand National) held in late February is the season feature at Ludlow races. A notable characteristic of the course is the B4365 road which crosses the racecourse in three separate points and closes when racing takes place.

Ludlow Betting Tips

Ludlow races provides a right-handed, flat oval track that totals 1 mile 4 furlongs in distance for National Hunt horses. On the chase course there are nine fences to negotiate in total, including two open ditches and a water jump. When selecting our Ludlow tips over fences we look for speedy horses who can nip over their obstacles quickly. The bends are quite sharp and after the first turn the horses meet their first four fences in rather quick succession, with one more to negotiate before four more fences on the home straight. On the final circuit of any race there are only three fences to jump on the home straight as the winning post is situated before the water jump.

The hurdles course has six flights in total and an extra 150 yards in distance compared to the chase course. It is run right-handed, but gallopers are more at ease on this track with more forgiving bends and some minor undulations. When selecting our Ludlow tips over hurdles there is a preference for horses that like to drop in close to the pace and strike on over the last two or three flights.

Ludlow Betting Trends

Nicky Henderson is also a big fan of the course and often uses it for preparing horses over hurdles. His strike rate of 42.86% in bumpers and 29.73% with hurdlers is up there with the best.

Paddy Brennan has won really good prize money in chases at Ludlow, totalling £148,575 in the last three years. His strike rate of 35.71% from 42 runners is also the best of any jockey in that time. Richard Johnson, Tom Scudamore and Nico de Boiville are jockeys to follow over the smaller obstacles.

Owner J P McManus has plenty of runners at Ludlow races, with 53 runners in the last 5 seasons. However, he has a success rate of just 11% (6 winners) for a level stakes loss of -£33.13
