Ludlow Racecourse is located in Shropshire, close to the Welsh border, and is a winter track which hosts National Hunt racing. The Forbra Gold Challenge Cup (named in honour of the 50/1 winner of the 1932 Grand National) held in late February is the season feature at Ludlow races. A notable characteristic of the course is the B4365 road which crosses the racecourse in three separate points and closes when racing takes place.
Ludlow Betting Tips
Ludlow races provides a right-handed, flat oval track that totals 1 mile 4 furlongs in distance for National Hunt horses. On the chase course there are nine fences to negotiate in total, including two open ditches and a water jump. When selecting our Ludlow tips over fences we look for speedy horses who can nip over their obstacles quickly. The bends are quite sharp and after the first turn the horses meet their first four fences in rather quick succession, with one more to negotiate before four more fences on the home straight. On the final circuit of any race there are only three fences to jump on the home straight as the winning post is situated before the water jump.
The hurdles course has six flights in total and an extra 150 yards in distance compared to the chase course. It is run right-handed, but gallopers are more at ease on this track with more forgiving bends and some minor undulations. When selecting our Ludlow tips over hurdles there is a preference for horses that like to drop in close to the pace and strike on over the last two or three flights.
