Wincanton hosts a six-race card on Monday and the going is officially described as good, good to firm in placed. With that in mind, you can forget about the mudlarks, as fast ground form is going to be essential. We’ve picked out three horses running at the Somerset track on Monday that have a proven preference for quick ground and are therefore set to appreciate the conditions better than most. Bethpage absolutely loves good ground and managed to complete a hat-trick over the spring and summer last year. Emma Lavelle gave her a break over the winter months and that could pay dividends, especially if her wind surgery has the desired effect. She should be competitive off this mark and a big run is anticipated here, with conditions very much in her favour.
Getbazoutofhere has two career successes to her name and both have come on good ground. The first of those came over 3m1f at Hereford in May and she then followed up in good style off a mark of 92 in November after a break. Her three subsequent runs have come over shorter trips and the return to three miles combined with the fast conditions could facilitate a return to winning ways.
Something Special gets the nod here as the seven-year-old mare has won three times on good ground. Now trained by Philip Hobbs & Johnson White, her last win came off a 1lb lower mark at Cheltenham in April. The daughter of Westerner looks fairly well treated on that evidence and she should have every chance, provided the return to 2m4f suits.
