William Haggas sends one on the 710-mile round trip to Hamilton where he’s 2/3

Hamilton Park has been a happy hunting ground for Newmarket-based trainer William Haggas so far this year. It’s a lengthy and expensive 710-mile round trip to the Scottish track so it’s no surprise that Haggas has only sent three runners there this season. Those three runners have yielded two winners so it’s noteworthy that he sends just one runner up there on Thursday. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

3.25 Hamilton

Terre De Vega is set to make his debut for this yard, having had just two starts for previous connections in France. This will be his first start since November and with that in mind, he’s likely to improve for the run. He did manage to win at Saint Cloud on debut and several subsequent winners have come out of the race.

The son of Lope De Vega looked a little one-paced when struggling in a Listed race next time but he remains thoroughly unexposed. It could be significant that he was initially supposed to make his debut in a Listed race at Sandown, as it suggests that he has shown plenty at home.

Haggas’ record at Hamilton over the last five seasons is also pretty impressive and he has 8 winners from just 21 runners during this time. That 38 per cent strike-rate combined with his excellent record in 2024 make him a trainer to follow here and it would be no surprise if Terre De Vega adds to the tally.

Karl Burke’s Thunder Run appears to be the biggest danger and he bolted up at Thirsk when last seen. It could be difficult to concede a fitness advantage to that rival but you wouldn’t want to rule out Haggas’ runner.
