‘We’re relishing this’ – Owner of only English Grade 1 runner at the DRF feels confident 🏆

There are eight Grade 1 contests across the Dublin Racing Festival’s two-day meeting. In what seems like a mistake from the British, there are only two horses trained over here that are entered in those top level events. The joint-owner of one of those entries, Jimmy Wenman, is confident of his horse’s chances going into the race. This horse could be the sole Grade 1 runner from Britain. ‘I think two-mile-six in Ireland will suit him’

Weveallbeencaught is a very promising type who has won an Irish point, a bumper and a maiden hurdle in his career so far. He started off in a Grade 2 at Cheltenham which will give you some idea as to how highly regarded the gelding is. Finishing third, it was a fair effort and subsequent Grade 1 scorer Hermes Allen was the winner that day. It didn’t take long to get off the mark as he won at Cheltenham on his next start, beating subsequent Grade 2 winner Rock My Way by a length-and-a-quarter.

Wenman is confident the 2m6f race will be a suitable test, he said: “I think two-mile-six in Ireland will suit him. We’re relishing this. There was a worry about the ground at Leopardstown because the track drains very well, but I think the ground will be perfect.”

‘I wouldn’t swap him for anything’

Connections have some lofty ambitions for this big, strapping future chaser. The substantial £210,000 price tag suggests that these owners haven’t come to play. Wenman added: “I wouldn’t swap him for anything and we bought him to one day be a Gold Cup horse.” It’s truly refreshing that owners with such a decent prospect are willing to take on the Irish in their own backyard. Weveallbeencaught’s form ties in with the best of the British form and he looks capable of running a massive race.
