Wednesday racing: expensive purchase, Ed Walker & Gavin Cromwell the man at Bellewstown

There’s action from Newbury, Wolverhampton, Kempton, Catterick and Bellewstown on Wednesday and Adrian Wall has highlighted all of the interesting facts and stats, including Cromwell being the man to follow at the Irish venue.

Can 900,000 euros purchase make it third time lucky?

Al Wathba is an expensive son of Wootton Bassett who finished second on his first two outings and actually chased home last week’s Acomb winner Haffner on his debut at Newmarket. He was beaten at very short odds at Leicester but is still entered in several Group 1 races and he will need to be winning this really if he is to live up to his price tag. He will run in the opening 1m novice contest at Kempton (6.20).

Ed Walker the man to follow at Newbury

Trainer Ed Walker has landed the 1m handicap at Newbury (6.30) twice in the last three years and he will run Accademia in the contest this year. The St Mark’s Basilica filly improved for her return when landing a 7f handicap at Doncaster last month before following up in a C&D handicap, coming from a difficult position with not much pace up top so super impressive. Should be up to landing the hat-trick.

In form Cromwell runner worth monitoring at Bellewstown

Gavin Cromwell has a fine record in the extended 2m4f handicap hurdle at Bellewstown (5.00), winning three of the last five runnings, so Gforcejenny is definitely worth monitoring in the betting. Still a maiden after five runs on the Flat and five runs over hurdles, she was a very good fifth of 20 on her handicap debut at Down Royal in May. Although nowhere near that level at Sligo last time, she is lightly raced and could bounce back.
