‘We are very happy’ – Aidan O’Brien confident with 9-2 Irish Champion Stakes hope 🗣️

It has been a rather tumultuous season for Auguste Rodin. Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old began the season with a bitterly disappointing effort in the 2000 Guineas. He bounced back in glorious fashion, when winning the Derby at Epsom and followed up in the Irish equivalent. It was another poor effort in the King George last time but his trainer is confident that he’s back to his best, ahead of a tilt at the Irish Champion Stakes. ‘It was a blessing in disguise’

Aidan O’Brien is certainly taking a positive outlook on Auguste Rodin’s disappointing run at Ascot last time. He said: “We don’t know what happened to Auguste Rodin, but he was drawn very wide and trapped very wide. Ryan’s first impulse was to protect the horse and he was very surprised by what happened. Before he had to ask him too much, he pulled him up.

“It was probably a blessing in disguise as he was probably going to have a very tough race no matter what happened. That was probably one of the toughest King Georges run in a long, long time and for a baby three-year-old it might be lucky that he didn’t get into a brawl.”

‘His work has been brilliant’

Ballydoyle’s maestro has been delighted with Auguste Rodin since and is confident his charge can bounce back once in again. He added: “He came home from Ascot well and has been fine since. If it came up soft, we wouldn’t run him. His work has been brilliant, we are very happy with everything he has been doing. He’s fresh and doing everything really good.” It’s always dangerous to ignore Aidan O’Brien as he was spot on when brimming with confidence ahead of the Derby and could be right once again.
