5:15 Wolverhampton – Diamonique – 1pt @ 10/1
With Keith Dalgleish’s horses in fine form lately, DIAMONIQUE could be set to go well. The 3-year-old filly has failed to win since doubling up in a week as a juvenile but has numerous pieces of form to suggest a mark of 69 is very workable and she was beaten little more than a length on her sole tapeta experience in August. I thought she shaped well at Kempton last time too, unable to mix it with two who were more patiently ridden but keeping on for a creditable third position. A short break since should do no harm and with more to come over the trip, a big run may be forthcoming if she can get a handy early position from stall 8.
7:15 Wolverhampton – Red Stripes – 1pt @ 11/1
RED STRIPES faces competition for the lead here which could make life more difficult than it needs to be but he’s interesting on the back of a 4-length C&D defeat last week when racing from 5lbs out of the handicap in a Class 4. They went hard there too, with a course record falling by 0.06 seconds and I think it’s a run that bodes well. Today, he lines up off his proper mark in a 0-60 and Seamus Cronin, who has won on board the horse four times, returns to remove his 5lb claim. Pace will dictate how this pans out but at any double-figured price, Red Stripes looks overpriced and a replication of that recent effort should see him involved.
