6:25 Chelmsford – Zap – 1pt @ 10/1
ZAP has endured a difficult year in hot handicaps, paying the price for a successful 2018, but he’s almost a stone below his peak rating and is a much more tempting proposition now. His most recent effort at York can be safely ignored with the softer ground no use to him, particularly over a mile, and returning to 7f is in his favour. The All-Weather surface is more of a question but he wasn’t disgraced over C&D last September and this is a Class 4 affair, which he is better than when on a going day.
7:55 Chelmsford – Mutabaahy – 1pt @ 9/1
A wide draw isn’t ideal for MUTABAAHY but two non-runners on his inside helps matters and I think it’s worth taking a chance on him regardless now that he’s in a 0-60 on a turning track. The money came for him at Newcastle last time out, when sent off favourite, but the horse did too much too soon under an apprentice rider and weakened away. With a solid pace likely to materialize here, the race should pan out better for him and although he doesn’t win often, he’s rated to have a big chance today.
