Having developed an interest in racing whilst in college some years ago, James has worked in many areas of the industry, including a stint hiding his face on radio! From 2008 until 2017, he ran a successful tipping service and has had shares in numerous horses including the wonderful Fast Shot. Unsurprisingly given some of the horses he has bought shares in, his punting passions lie in sprint handicaps on both the turf and All-Weather surfaces!

Racing tipster James Boyle has picked out three selections from Ascot.

A nice 8/1 winner yesterday thanks to Came From The Dark, who finally showed his true worth at the third time of asking for this column! Dropping to 5f off a solid pace clearly brought out the best in him and he can still do better. Presidential ran well, finishing strongly, but lacked for tactical pace.

2:45 Ascot – Arbalet – 1pt win @ 12/1

ARBALET has a bit to prove on recent form but he shaped like a horse with more in the locker at York last time, checked in his run when trying to build momentum over a C&D that may not be his optimum. Now he returns to 7f on a straight track and he’s a full 9lbs lower in the weights than when second in a 27-runner C&D handicap last July. This race may have been one of his more realistic targets for the season and first-time blinkers are enlisted, which could liven him up. He’s definitely interesting.

4:30 Ascot – Gunmetal – 1pt win @ 12/1

This season hasn’t really worked out for GUNMETAL as of yet and the turning of the ground in the coming weeks won’t help, but if a low draw doesn’t ruin his chance (has the potential to!) then I think he can be heavily involved here. He shaped all right at York last time also, failing to hack the early pace over a trip shy of his best but running the final couple of furlongs like a horse who wasn’t a million miles off a return to his best. He has previous here too having gone well in the Wokingham.

5:05 Ascot – Koditime – 1pt win @ 20/1

KODITIME is another to have faced some struggles this term but he’s a very big price for a young sprinter who is now 7lbs below his last winning mark and dropping back into a Class 3, 0-90 handicap for the first time since that win! Of course, there’s a reason for the price as he hasn’t fired of late but some excuses are in place and in both of his C&D runs in July, he did travel well for a long way. With cheekpieces on to hopefully help him finish a race off for a change, I’ll take a punt at 20/1.
