Frankie Dettori has announced his intention to postpone his retirement in order to ride in the US next year. This latest development is big news and the Italian has three rides at Newmarket on Friday. Two of Dettori’s rides are huge outsiders and they combine to form a monster 778-1 double. It’s going to be an action-packed day, with 10 races from Newmarket, York and Chepstow live on ITV4Â and you can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Sweetest (40-1, bet365) is still a maiden but she has finished second or third in each of her four starts. Aidan O’Brien’s filly has been expensive to follow however, as she has gone off favourite in all four races so far. Rather unsurprisingly, this daughter of Blue Point is nicely bred and there’s plenty of speed in her pedigree.
Perhaps her best effort to date came over 6f at Naas in August, where she was second by a narrow margin and was simply outstayed. The fact that Sweetest runs here suggests that O’Brien thinks she’s much better than what we’ve seen so far and he’s right more often than not.
Ambiente Amigo (18-1, bet365) is a hugely promising filly and deserves a crack at this Group 1 prize. Michael Bell’s charge showed plenty when finishing second at the July Course on debut. She then took a big step forward to win by seven lengths at Lingfield next time.
Equally as impressive under a penalty when upped to a mile last time out, she looked far too good for that level. The step up in grade here is huge and it’s likely that improvement will be needed but further progress certainly isn’t out of the question. We’ll learn plenty about this filly here and she’s not one to rule out.
