Tuesday’s racing: sire to follow, trainers to follow and Shark bids to strike again

We take a look at the key news, stats and facts for Tuesday’s horse racing, including a sire to follow for a debut runner at Ffos Las.

A sire to follow

Wootton Bassett has sired 54 individual debut winners thus far on the Flat which is a hell of a record so a market watch is advised for Mark Loughnane’s Vincenzo Bellini in the mile maiden at Ffos Las (6.39). The gelding cost 28,000 quid at two and his dam is a 2yo 7f/1m winner including the Moyglare Stud Stakes, a half-sister to smart Japanese 7f winner Danon McKinley out of 1,000 Guineas winner Homecoming Queen, herself a close relative of Irish Derby winner Dylan Thomas. Keep an eye on the betting.

Trainer with big profit figures

Emma Lavelle’s profit to a £1 level stake when having one runner at a flat meeting is a whopping £89.52 and that makes Silver Wraith of interest in the 5f handicap at Salisbury (2.37). The filly won at Bath on her final start of last term and made all to win over the same C&D on return. Slowly away at Sandown last time, she is better than that.

Can Shark attack again?

Shark Hanlon had a 20/1 winner on this Stratford card 12 months ago and sends two runners to the track on Tuesday. The first is Penzance in the 2m3f maiden hurdle (6.48), who was a decent yardstick on the Flat and has only run twice over hurdles to date. Second in line is Lakefield Flyer in the 2m3f handicap chase (8.18), who won at Downpatrick last summer and is back down to a workable mark.

Ger Lyons’ sole runner worth a bet at Roscommon

With six winners at this Roscommon meeting in the last five years, Lyons’ sole runner of the evening is Sonoran in the 1m2f handicap (7.30) and the top weight has a solid chance. He was a solid third over this trip at Leopardstown in May before another good sixth of 15 at the same track when last seen.
