It’s an action-packed day of racing on Tuesday and Adrian Wall has highlighted some interesting facts, including Shark Hanlon with two runners at Southwell.
It’s good to see Shark Hanlon back in some decent form and the yard has two runners at Southwell on Tuesday. The first of those is Hawk’s Rock in the 2m4f maiden hurdle (4.00) and son Paddy takes the ride. The gelding has made the frame in two starts over timber to date, on latest when a solid fourth in a 2m6f novice at Cartmel just ten days ago and he should be bang there again.
Pahlavi (5.00) is the other and he has more to prove in the 2m handicap hurdle. He is a former winner over hurdles at Downpatrick last summer but has been in poor form over fences of late and the return to hurdling needs to spark a revival.
Ben Haslam has a very good 28% strike-rate at Newcastle this year and Sunriseontheboyne (8.15) is interesting in the mile handicap. A four-time winner in Ireland last year when trained by Mick Mulvany, he is yet to show anything for this yard but it would be no surprise to see the money come for him now down in grade.
Volenti (8.45) is a four-time C&D winner and was an eyecatching fourth at Ripon two weeks ago. He should be able to build on that now.
Jack Nicholls has had four rides at Pontefract this season and three of them won so Dashing Dick (3.48) could be an each-way bet in the 6f handicap. He won a 6f Newmarket handicap in November and has a decent draw in stall six here if he’s on a going day.
Diamond Katie (4.18) won a C&D handicap in April and got going too late when runner-up at Yarmouth last time. She should give it a good go again.
Karl Burke has a brilliant return at Wolverhampton this year and Mr Noble (7.00) is the yard’s only runner of the night in the 6f novice. The son of Starman won on debut at Newcastle in November and could be tough to beat.
