Ireland is the home of big gambles and one runner at Tramore on Sunday pulled off a huge one at Clonmel back in November 2021. Having been beaten by a total of 177 lengths in three previous rules starts going into the race, he was smashed into favouritism on handicap debut. The horse in question duly obliged in what was a massive result for the punters. That very horse is the subject of sustained market support at Tramore on Sunday and has been backed into 11-1 from 20-1. Sunnyvilla is the subject of the sustained market support, which is showing no signs of stopping. Already a winner this season, Donal Hassett’s eight-year-old scored narrowly at Fairyhouse back in February. The horse he beat re-opposes here under 3lb better terms. This suggests some improvement will be needed if he’s to confirm the form with that runner, let alone win the race.
He would have needed the run at Limerick on seasonal debut in December. A well beaten sixth, it was his first start for 389 days. It was a disappointing effort at Gowran last time out however and he finished last of the six finishers. Sunnyvilla will need to put in a significantly better performance if he’s to feature here.
The progressive Tyre Kicker heads the market and rightfully so. Arriving off the back of a hat-trick, he’s the one they all have to beat. It’s certainly a positive sign that the money is coming for Sunnyvilla and it’ll be interesting to see how this fascinating move plays out.
