Trainer with 50% Sedgefield chase strike-rate sends 1 runner 564 miles on Sunday

For those who haven’t been to Sedgefield, it’s a cracking grass roots jumping track. An undulating course, it’s sharp in nature but can be testing in the depths of winter. One trainer who loves to send runners up to Sedgefield is Christian Williams. It’s a 564-mile round trip from his base in south Wales, a journey he makes with a single runner on Sunday.

Sedgefield has been very good to Williams so far in his short training career. Eight chasers have been sent to this track, yielding four winners and two seconds. It’s a long way to go with a single runner so his sole Sunday entry has to get a huge amount of respect on that alone. There are also cards at Kempton, Cork and Naas on Sunday for our horse racing tips.

Cage Of Fear is the horse in question. Three starts so far for Williams has seen him hint that there is still plenty of ability there and it isn’t too far back in the formbook to find him winning off a mark almost a stone higher than he currently finds himself.

He went well for a long way over a longer trip at Newton Abbot last time out but should be well suited to this distance. Unquestionably well treated on the best of his form, the record of his yard at this track makes him a stand out candidate on the card.

A drop of five pounds from the handicapper for that Newton Abbot run looks on the generous side and given that he is still only a seven-year-old, there should be plenty more success to be had with this gelding for a canny yard.
