Trainer whose last two runners were 50-1 and 66-1 winners sends two on Tuesday 🤔

Yorkshire trainer Chris Fairhurst is set to retire at the end of the year but he’s going out in style. Fairhurst has had just two runners in the last fortnight and both of them have won. This is exceptional in itself but both scored at monster prices of 50-1 and 66-1. He’s set to have one runner at Redcar on Tuesday and one at Newcastle which have to be of interest, especially at odds of 16-1 and 17-2. 3.00 Redcar

Opal Storm (16-1, bet365) won at Carlisle earlier this month, providing her trainer with a 66-1 winner. That was just her second handicap start which suggests she’s learning very quickly. She showed signs of promise on her final start in novice company at Ripon on soft ground last month, finishing fourth. The switch to handicaps was clearly a wise one and she’s going the right way.

The handicapper has put her up 4lb for that win but there’s clearly room for improvement and it’s unlikely that this unexposed sort has finished progressing. Aidan Brookes was on board for both of Chris Fairhurst’s big winners and the partnership with Opal Storm is maintained here.

8.30 Newcastle

Masham Moor (17-2, bet365) was a good second over course and distance off this mark last time out. You would imagine that a similar effort here would give him every chance of going one better. His last win came off just a 2lb lower mark at Southwell in January 2022 and it’s clear that this horse prefers an artificial surface. Paula Muir was on board last time and her 3lb claim is likely to come in handy once again. This is obviously a competitive mark for him and he shouldn’t be far away at the finish.
