Trainer Keith Dalgleish has final runner on Saturday and the horse is 20-1 👋

Top Scottish trainer Keith Dalgleish announced in February that he was giving up his profession in order to spend more time enjoying life with his family. Dalgleish will end his time as a horse trainer by saddling Alright Sunshine in the Old Newton Cup at Haydock Racecourse on Saturday. We have not tipped the horse for the race just for clarity, and if you want to find all of the weekend tips, you can find them on our free horse racing tips page on the website.

Trainer Quotes

Dalgleish went on to say: “Alright Sunshine on Saturday will be my last runner, for sure. It will be for Richard Gilbert, who’s been a fantastic supporter of mine. He’s a great fella who I’d class as a friend.”

Now aged 40, Dalgleish has won more than 970 races over both codes in Britain, the vast majority on the Flat, but is also a dab hand at training one over the jumps. He became the first trainer based in Scotland to send out 100 winners in a calendar year in 2017.

“The horses have gone to various places and the majority of them are going to the sales in July,” he said. “We’re down to 20 at the minute and we’ve whittled it down as this is something I’ve been planning for a while.”

Alright Sunshine is a general 20s chance with the bookies. He has been a very good handicapper and has some good course form around Haydock. He was down the field in the Copper Horse at Royal Ascot on his recent reappearance so will need to bounce back from that.
