Top international jockey flying in to ride Karl Burke’s 25-1 2000 Guineas hope ✈️

Christophe Soumillon is a huge name in European racing and has been for a very long time. The France-based Belgian has ridden many great horses over the years, such as Zarkava and Dalakhani. Karl Burke has managed to secure the veteran’s services for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, which is a major coup. Soumillon will take the ride on Burke’s 25-1 shot and the horse has some excellent form in the book. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

4.40 Newmarket (Saturday)

Holloway Boy sprung a surprise at Royal Ascot in June, when landing the Chesham Stakes over 7f on debut. Two of the horses in behind that day went on to score at Group 2 and Group 3 level, providing some substance to the form.

He followed that up with three solid placed efforts at Goodwood and Newmarket. Those later efforts would suggest that he has a bit to find in order to challenge the major contenders but history suggests it would be dangerous to underestimate him.

His trainer believes he can reverse the form with Charlie Appleby’s Silver Knott, who finished two lengths in front of him over course and distance in October. Burke said: Christophe was delighted to take the ride on Holloway Boy. He’s not a quirky character but I just have a feeling that Christophe will get on well with him and get the best out of him. He’s a big price. He’ll run with the visor on again and although we finished just a couple of lengths behind Silver Knott at Newmarket last season, he’s half the price of us. I’d be very surprised if we’re not in front of Silver Knott this time.”

That’s not his only task however, he also has the likes of Auguste Rodin, Little Big Bear and Chaldean to contend with. It would take a special performance for Holloway Boy to come out on top here but he’s got a top jockey on board and there’s every chance of further improvement at three.
