Well, what a week we had at the Cheltenham Festival and it’s a meeting we won’t forget in a hurry, but now we move onto the first big day on the Flat in Ireland and that spells a big day at the Curragh. British jockey Tom Eaves heads to the Curragh on Sunday for one ride in the Irish Lincoln which is interesting.
The horse in question is the Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood runner Thunder Roar who is trading at around 20/1 at the time of posting. Tom Eaves has ridden one winner from his last four rides at the Curragh in the last five years and he wouldn’t be travelling over if the horse didn’t have a solid shout.
Thunder Roar adores soft and heavy ground so forecast conditions are going to be ideal for the six-year-old son of Night Of Thunder. Despite going down narrowly a few times last year, he made amends when backed off the boards for a 1m handicap at Redcar on his final run of 2024 back in October.
Sent off an odds-on chance from a mark of 86, he won that eight-runner field in style. He has had one run this year when finishing last of 12 runners at Southwell last month, which was the perfect prep for this. Running from 91 isn’t insurmountable back on turf and he has a good draw in 24.
As ever, this is a field of 27 runners so it is definitely advisable to back the horse each-way if you do fancy having a bet on him. William Haggas won this race two years ago so a successful raid is possible.
