Thursday’s racing: Southern raiders at Hamilton and a beautifully bred debutante

There’s plenty happening on the racing front on Thursday and we’ve combined three of the four Newmarket-based runners at Hamilton into a treble. Jamie Snowden has a 50 per cent strike-rate at Worcester this season so we’ve assessed his representative and Aidan O’Brien has an excellently bred newcomer to watch at Leopardstown. Southern raiders in Scotland

There are four runners from Newmarket yards up at Hamilton on Thursday, two of which are in the same race, so we’ve combined three of them into a treble.

Tango Hotel was an impressive winner of an albeit average race at Ffos Las last month but an opening mark of 73 could prove to be generous. Further progress seems likely now tackling handicaps and trainer George Scott has a 55 per cent strike-rate at Hamilton, with six winners from just 11 previous runners.

Tom Clover’s My Mate Roger will be popular in the this novice, having finished second in each of his four starts to date. He was a head away from getting off the mark at Windsor on his penultimate start and if he doesn’t win here, a switch to handicaps could be in order.

English Oak brings a high level of form to the table here and the six-year-old landed a Royal Ascot handicap by three lengths off just a 3lb lower mark a couple of years ago. A return to form shouldn’t be ruled out and Jack Nicholls’ 5lb claim won’t do his chances any harm either.

Beautifully bred Ballydoyle newcomer

So Lovely is set to make her debut for Aidan O’Brien in a maiden over a mile at Leopardstown on Thursday and she’s the first living foal of the yard’s exceptional middle-distance performer Love. The dam landed the 1000 Guineas, Oaks, Yorkshire Oaks and the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes during her career.

This daughter of Wootton Bassett will be ridden by Wayne Lordan here and expectations will be high. She is potentially well worth adding to your notebooks and horse trackers.

Follow Jamie Snowden at Worcester

Jamie Snowden has an eye-catching strike-rate of 50 per cent at Worcester so far this season so his sole representative Mirabello should go under consideration. Finishing second in a Newton Abbot bumper in May, she goes up in trip on just her second start over hurdles here.
