Thursday racing: Irish raider at Ffos Las and Harry Skelton with one ride at Newton Abbot

There’s action from Carlisle, Ffos Las, Lingfield, Newton Abbot, Southwell and Navan on Thursday and Adrian Wall has highlighted all of the interesting facts and stats, including Harry Skelton travelling to a track for one ride.

Irish raider with strong claims at Ffos Las

Shrewd Irish handler Emmet Mullins sends one runner to Ffos Las on Thursday as Winday takes his chance in the 1m4f maiden (4.37) with Rossa Ryan booked for the ride. Third in a strong Tipperary maiden over 1m1f last year, he was right behind Royal Ascot winner Limestone and was in front of subsequent Epsom Derby winner Christmas Day in that contest.

He is now back with Mullins after a stint in France which culminated in a good third in a Listed hurdle at Auteuil in May. If the market speaks in his favour, he is likely to take plenty of beating as he steps up in trip on the level.

Harry Skelton travels to Newton Abbot for one ride

Red-hot jockey Harry Skelton is already operating at an incredible 37 per cent strike-rate this season with 71 winners from 190 rides, and it has to be a tip in itself that he travels to Newton Abbot for just one ride.

Skelton will take the mount on Thickthorn Tom for his brother Dan in the 2m5f handicap chase (7.12). This boy has improved massively over fences this season, making it three victories from his last four outings when winning over 2m4f at Worcester when last seen, travelling notable well throughout. He is up 5lb but should win again.

Expensive newcomer makes debut at Southwell

800,000 guineas purchase Night Of Gold makes his debut for George Boughey in the 7f novice (7.30). The Night of Thunder colt is nicely bred and should stay further in time. He holds a Royal Lodge entry and could be up to the task.
