Adrian Wall is certainly fond of a horse at a big price and upon sifting through the cards for Thursday’s horse racing action, he has found a horse at 40-1 who looks vastly overpriced. The horse will run at Sandown and will face a maximum of five other rivals. Best of luck if you follow and remember, always gamble responsibly.
I know some of the former owners of De Vega’s Warrior back in Ireland. Formerly owned by the Thoroughbred Racing Syndicate, this horse was trained by Joseph O’Brien and initially connections had fairly high hopes for him.
There is no getting away from the fact that this boy is a pretty one-paced galloping type and certainly does not possess a turn of foot. However, now stepping up to 1m6f for the very first time, we may well see a career best effort.
His best run in Ireland was probably when second at Limerick over 7f on bottomless ground, coming from last to second inside the last furlong and a half. This boy needs a proper test to be seen to best effect.
De Vega’s Warrior finished a respectable fifth in a series final at Naas, which was his last run for O’Brien. He was very well backed on British debut at Southwell, but finished fourth of the 11 runners over the extended mile, again outpaced early.
He showed a lot more when second to Base Note when stepped up in trip at Wolverhampton, and his latest run at Chester can easily be forgiven as he doesn’t look like the nippy type needed around there.
Stepping up to this distance for the first time on a stiff enough track, I think the available 40-1 is absolute madness.
