The official going at Clonmel on Thursday is soft. With some rare winter ground around, you should be on the lookout for winter horses. With this in mind, we’ve selected three horses with proven records on soft ground who’ll relish the conditions on offer. Bluebell Diva (4-1, bet365) showed significant improvement on handicap debut at Limerick last time out. She finished second by five-and-a-half lengths to a well-handicapped horse. It seems likely that there’s plenty more to come from this lightly-raced mare. Her recent career-best effort came on soft ground so the combination of suitable going and an unexposed profile could see her shed the maiden tag.
Milan Native (12-1, bet365) has an excellent record on soft ground. Gordon Elliott’s gelding has finished first or second in five of his seven starts when the going was soft. A rather lengthy lay-0ff is a bit of a concern but this is the perfect race for his comeback. As well as liking soft ground, he also has a solid record on trips in and around three miles. His finest piece of form to date was his Kim Muir victory at Cheltenham back in 2020. If fit enough for today’s test, conditions are ideal for this horse so he should run a huge race.
Banntown Girl (6-1, bet365) made a pleasing enough chasing debut at Wexford last time out. That was her first start for 266 days so she’s entitled to come on for the run. The form of that race has been boosted by the winner who went on to score again next time out. Her record on soft ground is decent, winning a bumper and finishing second in a hurdle in two of her three starts on it. As the unplaced run on soft was her debut, she can be forgiven for that.
