The ground is set be soft at Goodwood on Wednesday and this will suit some horses better than most. Adrian Wall’s mud lovers article on Saturday provided 12-1 and 8-1 winners and we’ll be bidding to follow up at Goodwood. We’ve picked out three runners with proven records on soft ground for you to consider. You can check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.
Coco Bear (11-2, Paddy Power) loves juice in the ground and has won three of his four starts on soft. He also won his sole start on heavy ground and this indicates that he will absolutely thrive in the conditions at Goodwood. Patrick Chamings’ charge ran up a hat-trick of wins on soft ground in the spring and would have hated the ground at Newmarket in July. Better is expected here upon returning to a slower surface and a big run could be on the cards.
Adaay In Devon (11-2, Paddy Power) is improving with every run. Rod Millman’s filly is unbeaten in two starts on soft ground and was a course and distance winner back in August. She certainly wasn’t stopping at the end of a stiff six furlongs at Carlisle last time out and she shaped as if the step up to 7f will suit. You wouldn’t want to rule out further progress and she has all the tools necessary to run a huge race here.
Wind Your Neck In (11-1, Paddy Power) is yet to finish outside of the first two in three starts on soft ground. This horse beat 115-rated Israr by a comfortable margin on soft ground as a juvenile. David Evans’ gelding was a good second off a 3lb higher mark at Sandown in July, which makes his current rating particularly attractive. Kevin Stott is on board and he shouldn’t be far away at the business end of the race.
